We are delighted to have Susan Mandela, PhD, from Writing Works Consulting joining our meeting on Wednesday 26th November, 7pm – 8.30pm (ish) at McNabs, Barnard Castle, delivering a workshop themed around ‘Other Voices’. We’ll be delving into techniques, writing experiments, and discussion on the way using language to write from inside different minds and experiences can contribute to changing how we, as writers, convey our storytelling to interest and intrigue our audience, so they can’t help themselves to want to read more and tell their friends about it too.
Susan is a writing and language awareness consultant and the founding director of Writing Works Consulting. She is dedicated to helping everyone she works with turn their great ideas into results with impact through clearer writing, sharper thinking, and more strategic use of language.
For many years an academic at the University of Sunderland, Susan is an expert in the language of fiction and drama and now specialises in workshops on language awareness for creative writers and creative writing groups.
She has published on:
Weird -y suffixes in Buffy the Vampire Slayer;
Dialect in Sheila Quigley’s Bad Moon Rising;
Chinese-English codeswitching in Joss Whedon’s Firefly;
Language and power in Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter, and
Seven-of-Nine’s developing communication skills in Star Trek: Voyager.
